CUSD in the Community
Love Chico
Book in Common
Annie B Drive
| | What is Love Chico? Love Chico is about Chico-area Churches coming together in a collaborative effort and serving the community! On September 26, twenty-six Chico-area churches will come together to serve our community. Projects will range from litter removal and visitation at assisted living homes to beautification projects around non-profits and schools.
Last year, students, staff and parents of CUSD arrived to new murals, new holistic playgrounds, new plants and bark, improved bike racks, new picnic benches, and many, many more improvements. There was a great deal of giving of time, energy, and talents by individuals and families that day.
Please visit the LOVE Chico website to see the donors, the projects, and the participating churches. We are truly fortunate to live in a community that is so generous and understands that we are all in this together.

| | This year, Chico Unified School District will again partner with Chico State, Butte College, the Butte County Library, and others for the third annual community-wide Book-In-Common. The book-in-common project is designed to unite the community around a book, and provide the opportunity to address themes that are relevant to us all. This year’s book is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba. For more information, visit the CSU Chico Book-in-Common website at www.csuchico.edu/bic. We will provide more information in the next few weeks about opportunities for CUSD teachers, parents, and students to become involved. The kick-off event will be held Thursday, September 9, at 6 p.m. in the City Plaza downtown. | |

| | Dear Friends of Chico Unified School District, As you are aware, the devastating state budget has cut or severely reduced many of the outstanding programs offered by Chico Unified School District for our children throughout the years. In fact, over the last two years, CUSD has had to cut over $4 Million dollars from our already stretched budget. This reduction represents the loss of many wonderful opportunities for our students. We have simply been forced to cut extras like music, art, student government, athletics, and drama. These are programs that enrich our students educational experience, help create well-rounded citizens, and that provide additional skills and knowledge for future growth. Can you help us during this time of severe cuts to schools due to the California state budget crisis? Whether you are an alumnus of Chico Unified, a parent or grandparent of a current student, or a concerned member of our community, your donation of $25, $50, $100 or any amount you wish to contribute will help us keep programs and services for the kids in Chico Unified schools! And, right now is the very best time to donate. If you send your tax-deductible check between August 1 and September 30, 2010 your donation will earn additional monies from the North Valley Community Foundation Annie Bs fund raising drive. There are several programs in CUSD that are participating in the Annie B Drive. You can direct your donation to a specific fund within Chico Unified, which can be viewed at (www.northvalleyfoundation.org), or you can donate to the CUSD Foundation and the Board of Education will determine how the funds can be best used. Either way, I hope you will be as generous as you can. On behalf of our students, thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,
Jann Reed, Chair CUSD Board of Trustees Contributions can be sent to: Annie B Drive NorthValley Community Foundation 3120 Cohasset Road #8 Chico, CA 95973
